Protection Plan

Objective  Decide what protection steps are right for your group and situation

Protecting property, your group & yourself can become a key challenge in a crisis

This section provides information for both active and passive defense and protection of your property and your group.  If civil unrest develops during a crisis you may be faced with life or death situations.  Being prepared to defend and protect your group, home and property is essential in these situations.

Passive Home Defense
In a crisis that includes lawless activities, you can create a passive defense system that will help keep you safe from most people.  Ensuring your property does not look like an attractive or easy target to looters and thieves is one effective strategy.

Active Home Defense
Having an active defense plan means use of firearms to protect against violent intruders who seek to harm you or your family.  You may also need to protect your life and property from dog packs or other wild predators during a prolonged crisis.

Firearms
A decision to incorporate firearms into your protection plan should not be taken lightly.  Every gun owner is responsible for firearm safety. Every member of your group must fully understand and exercise gun safety as well as understand all aspects of any active defense plan you create.

Firearm Selection
The best firearm is one that works best for the user.  If you decide to include firearms in your protection plan, each adult should have both a pistol and a rifle or shotgun that they can confidently handle.

Self Defense
In a close quarters situation, when facing a person who threatens your safety, you should be able to confidently and calmly assess the situation and apply self defense tactics to disarm and incapacitate an attacker.

Travel Safety Plan
Whether traveling to your retreat during a crisis or moving about during a lawless situation, having a specific plan will improve your ability to move safely.  Being able to identify hazardous areas and avoid conflicts is the goal of safe travel.

Home Maintenance - During a crisis, you will depend on your home to provide protection from the weather and security in a dangerous environment.  Be able to make repairs to your home to maintain the ability to  provide safety & security.

Clothing - Your clothing is your primary shelter when in the elements such as rain, sun, heat, cold, and wind.  In some instances it may also need to be designed to allow you to blend in with your environment.  Your clothing should protect you and help maintain a comfortable temperature even when the outside conditions are very cold, hot, or wet.
