Survival Food Plan
Food, Water &
Shelter are the three most important areas for survival. Be sure you do
not rely soley on refrigerated foods. In a crisis, the electrical
system can stay down for weeks and in some crisis it could be a month or
more
before it returns. Having an adequate food stock at home
means you so not have to leave your home during unsafe conditions.
Food Planning includes ...
Selection - Have a wide variety
of foods. Don't store foods that you do not currently eat.
You are basically creating a home grocery store. Store what you
eat and eat what you store.
Amount - You should start
with a 2 week supply of food that does not require refrigeration,
After that, start increasing your food stocks. You should rotate
your foods so you eat the oldest (but still within the shelf life) first
and restock to increase the amount of food you store.
Nutrition - Select a range of foods
that provide proper nutrition. Understand the principles of nutrition so
you can maintain a health diet. Supplementing with vitamins and
minerals will help maintain your nutritional health
Cooking - If electrical
utilities are not available, you will need an alternate means for cooking.
Alternatives include woodstoves, solar ovens, low power induction cook
tops, propane camp stoves and campfires.
Storage - Survival food storage
means shelf and root cellar storage. Create storage area
environments that
will extend the life of stored foods.
Preservation - Many fresh foods are
